Rounds Of Storms, Some Severe, Target NJ In Latest Forecast

NEW JERSEY — The state's prolonged stretch of dry weather will soon be coming to an end as several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to dampen weekend plans and continue into Tuesday.

The National Weather Service(NWS) is predicting about one to three inches of rainfall through Tuesday, with locally higher amounts possibly exceeding four inches.

Some spotty wet weather could begin on Friday or Friday night. For the most part, Friday will remain dry with scattered showers around and perhaps a few rumbles of thunder Friday night, according to US National Weather Service Philadelphia/Mount Holly.

Temperatures will be in the low to mid-80s for Friday.

However, the real chance of rain and possibly severe thunderstorms is expected to begin on Saturday with rain continuing on Sunday through Tuesday.

There is a 50 to 90 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms on Saturday. A few storms could be severe, producing damaging winds.

Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms are then expected on Sunday through Tuesday.

"While it has been relatively dry recently, the increasingly saturated ground and locally heavy rainfall could lead to some areas of flash flooding," according to the NWS.

North Jersey

Friday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. Southwest wind 6 to 13 mph.

Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 63. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight.
