NJ Weather: Snow Accumulation Estimates Rise For Monday Storm

NEW JERSEY — Snow forecast totals have increased for communities in New Jersey as first responders prepare for potential hazardous road conditions Monday and Tuesday.

A low-pressure system moving into the region late Monday could bring five to eight inches of snow, as well as ice, in some parts of the Garden State, according to AccuWeather.

Plan on slippery road conditions which could impact both Monday evening's commute and Tuesday morning's.

"The hazardous conditions could impact this evenings commute and also the Tuesday morning commute," AccuWeather forecasters said.

The storm moving in Monday contains energy from the powerful storm that dumped rain and snow onto Southern California this past weekend, said AccuWeather Meteorologist Bill Deger.

And, a second major storm is expected to arrive at the end of the week, per AccuWeather forecasters.

Light precipitation may fall in some parts of NJ before 5 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued Winter Storm Warnings for counties in North Jersey.

The main risk for heavy snow will be between 5 and 7 p.m. Monday, said the NWS office in Mount Holly. The storm also carries a risk for rain and a wintry mix to make roads slick.


Winter storm advisories and warnings are in place for some northern New Jersey counties, beginning Monday afternoon.

A winter storm warning is in effect for Sussex and Morris counties in NJ from 5 p.m. Monday until 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Warren County, NJ has a winter storm warning in effect from 5 p.m. Monday until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Hunterdon and Somerset counties in NJ have a winter storm warning in effect from 5 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Some other North Jersey counties under the auspices of NWS New York are on winter weather advisories. Eastern Bergen, western Essex, and western Union counties are under the advisory from 6 p.m. Monday until 1 p.m. Tuesday., according to Accuweather.

These counties may get three to five inches of snow accumulation, with up to six inches possible.

The storm appears to be missing South Jersey, which has not seen measurable snowfall this season.
