NJ's Worst Drivers: The Top 5 Cities Ranked
The five also rank among the top 20 in all of the Northeast.
ELIZABETH, NJ — You might have heard the Garden State get a reputation for some of the most aggressive drivers, and according to a new Consumer Affairs report, New Jersey also has some of the most dangerous in the Northeast.
Using the latest National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's crash statistics, the measured a combination of factors that added to risky behavior. These included speeding, alcohol, and reckless driving, to rank the top 20 places in the Northeast where the roads are a bit more dangerous than others.
Of the top five cities, four were from New Jersey or Connecticut. Both states also had a combined eight of the top ten in the ranks for most dangerous driving conditions.

Waterbury, Connecticut took the regional crown with nearly double the number of traffic fatalities per 100,000 people as the national average.

2. Lakewood
3. Newark
4. Trenton
5. Elizabeth
Cities with populations of at least 65,000 were considered in the states classified by the U.S. Census as part of the Northeast.
Each city was ranked out of 20 for each crash factor. The city with the highest score set the mark as the maximum, and all others then received relative scores.

The individual scores were then added together to get a final total.
