Potential Tropical Storm Could Soak NJ Mid-Week: See Timeline
The storm developing off the Carolina coast Monday is expected to bring some heavy rain to parts of New Jersey, forecasters say.
NEW JERSEY — Dry, sunny conditions will be disrupted by a mid-week storm that will bring rain and gusty winds to the Garden State, forecasters predict.
As of Monday, what the National Hurricane Center is calling "Potential Tropical Cyclone Eight" is forming off the Carolinas coast. That storm is projected to make its way north, bringing several days of soggy weather this week.
"Assuming a defined center has formed, a landfall along the northern South Carolina coast on Monday afternoon is most likely," according to AccuWeather. The exact path of the storm is not yet known, but if it tracks north, heavy rain can be expected along the mid-Atlantic coast from Tuesday to Thursday.

The southern Jersey Shore area will be under a coastal flood warning Monday from 6 p.m. to midnight. A high rip current risk is in place through Tuesday evening, and the National Weather Service warns it could go through Wednesday as well.
It'll be later Tuesday when the depression strikes New Jersey, forecasters say.

"The first and perhaps strongest wave comes through late Tuesday. Guidance has trended later with rain and embedded thunderstorms overspreading the region, and Tuesday now looks mainly dry with the exception of southern zones within the Delmarva peninsula," the National Weather Service said. "Thinking the heaviest rain will now come more late Tuesday Night into Wednesday morning."
South Jersey is expected to see the most rain, with about a half-inch to an inch, though forecasters note uncertainty.
Widespread flooding isn't likely because of how dry it's been, the National Weather Service said. As of Sept. 12, the U.S. Drought Monitor has South Jersey listed as "abnormally dry," with a small portion listed as "moderate drought."
Temperatures will stay in the 70s, and some rain is possible through Thursday night.
