'Record-Breaking' Temps Hit NJ With 1st Heat Wave Of The Year
Extreme heat and high humidity is making its way into New Jersey this week, peaking for many on the first official day of summer.
NEW JERSEY — Expect "record-breaking" temperatures and high humidity in New Jersey this week, as the region's first heat wave of the year hits just the summer season officially begins.
It's going to be incredibly hot, according to forecasters, who warn that it could potentially stretch into the next week.
"The longevity of dangerous heat forecasted for some locations has not been experienced in decades," the National Weather Service said.

Local max heat indices could reach 105 degrees, forecasters say, and don't expect any relief at night, as overnight temperatures will only drop to the mid-70s and it'll stay humid.
AccuWeather forecasters say that the peak of the heat wave could hit on June 20 - the start of astronomical summer.

A heat advisory is in effect for much of the state from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday. Then, an excessive heat watch will run through Saturday, though forecasters expect that to also become a heat advisory.
Heat waves can be incredibly dangerous and, on average, kill more Americans than any other type of severe weather like floods and tornados, according to AccuWeather. Experts recommend staying inside during the hottest times of day. If you must be outdoors, drink plenty of fluids and take lots of breaks in the shade.
