Severe Weather Headed To NJ: Strong Winds, Thunderstorms Expected
There is an elevated risk of severe storms across New Jersey on Saturday. Here's the latest information:

NEW JERSEY — A rainy and windy weekend is in the cards across New Jersey, forecasters say, with two rounds of storms expected Saturday and severe thunderstorms possible.
This system will press eastward through the Appalachian region and a large part of the Atlantic Coast on Saturday, according to AccuWeather.
All of New Jersey is at risk of winds between 50 and 60 miles per hour from Friday night into Saturday, said AccuWeather forecasters.

“Very strong winds” in the upper atmosphere could be brought down to the ground, said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Adam Douty.
"Power outages and tree damage are possible, and any loose objects can blow around,” Douty said.

Then, there will be storms on Saturday too, with the National Weather Service calling for gusts of up to 40 miles per hour.
In NJ, showers and storms will occur "in two main rounds," said the National Weather Service, one in the late morning and another during the evening. The primary threat will be damaging wind gusts that will pop up locally.
The National Weather Service's Mount Holly office shows an elevated risk for scattered and severe thunderstorms for the entire state on Saturday. This means some storms will contain damaging winds and severe hail. There is the potential for tornado activity, too.
The Mount Holly office forecasts for most of NJ; the New York City office handles forecasting for the Garden State's northeastern counties, and also shows an elevated risk of severe storms in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, and Union counties.
A strong cold front will approach the region from the northwest on Saturday afternoon, bringing wind gusts up to 40 mph according to the National Weather Service.
"It will be a fairly dynamic system and any thunderstorms have the potential to easily mix down some locally damaging wind gusts," explained the National Weather Service.
