Accumulating Snow, Heavy Rain Chances Increase In Latest NJ Forecast

While snow is expected to stay in the northwestern portion of the state, there's a chance it could expand further south, forecasters say.

NEW JERSEY — Heading into the latter half of the week, the entirety of the Garden State will see at least some beneficial rainfall, with areas possibly seeing the first snowfall of the season, according to the latest forecast.

There was some drizzling Tuesday night, but the real rain will kick in Wednesday night and linger through Friday, the National Weather Service said.

Predicted rainfall is heavier up north, with up to three inches expected. Meanwhile, South Jersey, which has been more impacted by drought conditions, will likely see an inch of rain at most, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain will change to snow at higher elevations Thursday night into Friday. AccuWeather predicts a couple inches of snow in the northwestern corner of the state. While this is expected to be limited to higher areas in North Jersey, it could spread. Across the state, we could see some wintry mix forming.

"There are a few simulations which imply snow could reach significantly further south across our region, even down to the I-95 corridor and Philly metro, particularly the Canadian models," the National Weather Service said. "For the moment we've mostly discounted that guidance as being outliers, but will be keeping it in mind as we watch further progress with this system."

Snow accumulation isn't expected to be much outside of the highest elevations. Either way, no matter where you are, Thursday and Friday will be cold, brisk days. It'll be wet and raw, and generally unpleasant for commuting.

Things will dry out again over the weekend, but the chance for showers increases again as we head into next week.
