Snow, Ice, High Winds, Flooding Headed To NJ: Here’s The Timeline
The Thursday evening commute could get hazardous, with officials expecting the storm to linger into Friday. Here's the latest.

NEW JERSEY — Say hello to winter. With a wintry mix currently impacting New Jersey roads, forecasters anticipate the storm lingering into Friday, creating slippery conditions for Thursday evening commutes throughout the state.
A combination of snow, rain and strong gusts will impact different parts of New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service. With 1-2 inches of rainfall expected, the agency predicts that localized, flooding may also occur.
For most of the Garden State, a mix of winter weather will shift to rain. However, even areas receiving light snow and ice may get slippery roads, according to the National Weather Service.

Parts of the state will receive snow, forecasters say. The National Weather Service issued winter-weather advisories in three portions of the state:

- Sussex and Warren Counties: 12 p.m. to midnight Thursday. Officials expect mixed precipitation, accumulating up to 3 inches of snow with a light glaze of ice. Thursday morning's mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain should shift to a period of all snow in the late afternoon and evening. Four to 6 inches of snow may accumulate on higher terrain. Plan on slippery road conditions during the evening commute.
- Camden, Gloucester, Salem and northwestern Burlington Counties: until 12 p.m. Thursday. The agency anticipates mixed precipitation with snow up to 1 inch and ice reaching about one-tench of an inch. Temperatures will warm above freezing from mid-to-late morning, resulting in a change to plain rain.
- Western Passaic County: 1 p.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday. Wet snow is expected, with accumulations of 2-3 inches. Plan on slippery road conditions that could impact Thursday evening's commute. The National Weather Service expects snow to shift to rain Thursday night.
Then there's the matter of wind and coastal flooding on the Jersey Shore. Officials predict inland gusts of 30-40 mph and 50 mph gusts along the coast Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. Expect minor flooding during Friday's high tides.
By late Thursday, every part of the state except the northwestern portion will see plain rain, the National Weather Service says. The rain should increase in intensity during the evening, potentially flooding low-lying areas.
"It's still the time of year where leaves can hamper drainage," the agency's Mount Holly office said in a forecast discussion. "If you plan to be on the road Thursday night, be aware that minor roadway flooding is possible."
Rain will persist Friday, with some light precipitation possibly lingering that night in North Jersey — particularly in the northwest, the National Weather Service says. With cold air incoming, the agency hasn't ruled out a "very brief" transition back to a snowy, wintery mix. But there should be little accumulation, and any precipitation in the region should end by midnight.
