Snow Showers Possible As More Heavy Rain Targets NJ: Latest Forecast

NEW JERSEY — Flood warnings were issued for parts of New Jersey on Saturday as heavy rains and strong winds moved into a state already saturated from several early-week storms.

More than six inches of rain has dropped in parts of the state since Tuesday and up to two more inches is expected Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning as storms converge on the state, according to AccuWeather. Most of the region is forecast to see between half an inch to an inch of new accumulation.

Rain is expected to move into the state Saturday, developing through the afternoon and becoming heavy at times Saturday night through Sunday morning, the National Weather Service said in its latest forecast.

Minor to moderate flooding is possible late Saturday through Sunday, the agency said.

"East flow ahead of the storm will allow water to pile up along the coasts," NWS Mount Holly posted on X. "Tide levels are elevated due to the new moon this weekend, & heavy rain runoff may add to the high water levels."

On Saturday, the NWS issued a flood warning for the following areas:

  • Millstone River At Blackwells Mills affecting Somerset County. The warning is in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning.
  • Passaic River At Pine Brook affecting Essex, Morris and Passaic counties. The warning is in effect starting Saturday evening until further notice.

A flood watch remains in effect from 1 p.m. Saturday through Sunday night for the following New Jersey counties:

  • Sussex
  • Warren
  • Morris
  • Hunterdon
  • Somerset
  • Middlesex
  • Monmouth
  • Mercer
  • Gloucester
  • Camden
  • Burlington
  • Ocean

A coastal flood advisory is also in effect through noon Sunday for Sussex, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic, Cape May, and Burlington counties, according to the NWS.

Temperatures are expected to drop back into the 40s overnight Saturday, forecasters said. By Sunday afternoon, cold air mixed with low-hanging clouds could create a chance for snow showers mainly northwest of Interstate 95, forecasters said.

Strong northwest winds will also move into the state Sunday and continue into Monday, forecasters said. Gusts up to 40-50 mph are expected.

After early morning cold winds, Monday will see a return to sunny skies with a high near 45 degrees.

North Jersey

Saturday: Rain, mainly after 3 p.m. High near 44. Southeast wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 a.m., then a chance of rain. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 43. East wind 11 to 17 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Sunday: Scattered rain and snow showers after 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a temperature rising to near 48 by noon, then falling to around 39 during the remainder of the day. West wind 11 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday Night: Scattered rain and snow showers before 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. West wind 13 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Windy, with a northwest wind 16 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 46 mph.

Central Jersey

Saturday: Rain, mainly after 2 p.m. Patchy fog after noon. High near 49. Southeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m., then a chance of rain and thunderstorms, mainly between 1-2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog before 4 a.m. Low around 44. Breezy, with a southeast wind 10 to 20 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Sunday Night: A slight chance of showers between 8-11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Breezy, with a west wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Windy, with a northwest wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph.

South Jersey

Saturday: Rain, mainly after 2 p.m. Patchy fog after 1 p.m. High near 52. Southeast wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m., then a chance of rain and thunderstorms between 1-2 a.m. Patchy fog before 3 a.m. Low around 43. Breezy, with a southeast wind 15 to 20 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.
