Winter Weather Advisories Issued As Snow, Ice Move Into NJ

A warm front will bring temperatures up, but also has the chance to bring some snow or freezing rain to New Jersey.

A fast-moving clipper system moving across New Jersey is set to bring some snow or freezing rain to parts of the state Tuesday as temperatures warm slightly, according to the latest forecast.

Winter Weather Advisories have been issued in Monmouth, Middlesex, Hunterdon, Somerset, Morris, Sussex and Warren counties from Tuesday evening to 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Freezing rain is expected to leave a light glaze of ice in these areas, according to the National Weather Service.

"Very slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges are possible," National Weather Service forecasters said. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while on the road, while those heading outside should watch their first few steps as they may be icy.

The good news is that temperatures Tuesday will start to warm. Highs will reach near 40 degrees Tuesday and stay that way through the rest of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

This return to near-normal temperatures for this time of year will linger into next week as well, forecasters said. However, it could bring a winter storm this weekend, though details of this are still uncertain.

"Model guidance continues to depict an area of low pressure affecting the eastern seaboard around about the Sunday into Monday timeframe. However since this is still almost a week out, there is uncertainty in the intensity, track, and timing of this system," National Weather Service forecasters said. "That said, it does appear likely there will be at least some precipitation from this system affecting the area late Sunday into early next Monday."

Since air is expected to be slightly warmer, rain or snow turning to rain would likely be the favored form of precipitation.
