Heavy Rainfall, Thunderstorms Expected In Parts Of NJ: Here's Where

Heavy rainfall and several storms are slated for New Jersey this week. Here's what to know.

NEW JERSEY — Several rounds of storms and heavy rainfall are expected to descend on New Jersey later this week, with wet forecasts ahead for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, forecasters said.

Wednesday will kick off as a warm summer day, with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s in most areas, according to the National Weather Service. Humidity will also be high, although northern areas will start to see some relief in the afternoon with the introduction of drier air.

A thunderstorm threat is also expected by Wednesday afternoon around 3 p.m., particularly for South Jersey with some risk for strong, damaging winds and locally heavy rainfall late Wednesday, according to a National Weather Service forecast discussion.

Thursday should remain relatively dry in the morning, with more rounds of rain coming in the afternoon. The greatest chances for “appreciable rainfall” and thunderstorms will be mostly south of the Philadelphia metro area. Temperatures will be modestly cooler with a high around 82, the National Weather Service said.

A noticeable drop in humidity is expected Friday, with his in the low- to mid-80s and widespread showers and thunderstorms, the weather agency said.

Here’s the latest forecast, according to the National Weather Service:

Wednesday: Patchy fog before 7 a.m. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in South Jersey after 3 p.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 91. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. East wind around 5 mph. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69. East wind around 5 mph.

Friday: Showers likely before 9 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Friday Night: A chance of showers, mainly before 2 a.m. Patchy fog after 11 p.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 68.
