Teachers At These 10 NJ Districts Earn More Than $100K: See New Data
The median salary for New Jersey teachers this year is $77,943, up from $74,175 in last year, according to state data.
NEW JERSEY — Teachers at ten New Jersey school districts are earning a median salary of more than $100,000 this year, with the median at one district over $117,000, according to recently-released state data.
This was only the case in three districts last year, according to the New Jersey Taxpayers' Guide to Education Spending.
The top-paying districts also have teachers with more experience than the state average, according to data from the annual state report cards. A teacher's salary depends on several things, including how much experience each teacher has, their own education level, staff size, the education level they are teaching, and the cost of living around the district.

On average, New Jersey teachers have 12.5 years of experience in public schools and 11.3 years of experience in their district, the most recent state report card data(from 2021/22) shows.
The median salary for New Jersey teachers this year is $77,943, up from $74,175 in 2021/22, according to state data. Teachers in K-6 schools earn the least overall, state data shows, earning a median $67,577 salary. And, those in high schools with only grades 9-12 earn a median salary of $91,520, state data shows.

Five of the top-paying school districts are in North Jersey, including the highest-paying district, the Northern Valley Regional High School District in Bergen County. Teachers here have an average 16.2 years of experience, and there is a 9:1 student-to-teacher ratio in the district, state report data shows.
The median teacher salaries for both 2021/22 and 2022/23 are listed for all districts in the table below.
