Trio Robs 57 Walmart, Sam's Club Stores In NJ, PA, Other States: Cops

TILDEN TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Pennsylvania have arrested a man they say was one of three who robbed more than 57 Walmart and Sam's Club locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and two other states.

Jahmir Mitchell, 24, of Philadelphia, was arrested Wednesday on multiple outstanding warrants and is currently in custody at the Philadelphia Department of Prisons, Tilden Township police said in a news release.

According to police, Jahmir Mitchell, his father, 42-year-old Jamaal Mitchell, and a third unidentified male suspect were involved in 57 attempted or successful thefts at Sam's Club and Walmart stores throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.

Authorities have not specified which stores were targeted by the thieves.

Tilden Township police said the trio targeted a Hamburg, Pennsylvania, Walmart on Oct. 21, where they filled two shopping carts with more than $930 worth of merchandise. Police said they left the store through a fire exit door, where they got into a black Jeep Cherokee and fled.

Police said store employees tried to stop the men until one of the suspects took out a gun and threatened to kill the employees.

According to authorities, the trio used the same Jeep Cherokee during the robberies, but police said they switched license plates between New Jersey L87PTP and Delaware 299336 to avoid apprehension or identification.

Police said Jahmir Mitchell was arrested on charges including robbery, retail theft and making terroristic threats. Jamaal Mitchell, who has not been apprehended, faces the same charges, authorities said.
