2 Men Sentenced For 2019 Fatal Shooting Of Asbury Park Man
Jehadje McMillian, 23, was shot to death in June of 2019 on the Prospect Avenue basketball courts.
ASBURY PARK, NJ — Two men were sentenced last Friday for their respective roles in the 2019 fatal shooting of a 23-year-old Asbury Park man at the Prospect Avenue basketball courts.
Prince D. Young, 25, and Chyrod M. Freeman, 24, both of Asbury Park, were each sentenced to 20 years in prison on first-degree aggravated manslaughter charges.
They must serve 85 percent of their sentences before being eligible for parole.

Young and Freeman previously pleaded guilty in January of this year to the shooting death of Jehadje J. McMillian.
They shot and killed him in June 2019.

“Jehadje was a young man with an extremely bright future ahead of him that was taken away in a single act of senseless violence,” said Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago. “The sanctity of life dictates that justice be served."
At around 10:44 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019, Asbury Park Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired in the 1100 block of Atlantic Avenue.
Police arrived on the scene to find McMillian with a gunshot wound, and he was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:14 a.m. the following day.
The case was prosecuted by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutors Matthew Bogner, Director of the Major Crimes Bureau, and Ashley Behre. Young was represented by James R. Lisa, Esq. of Jersey City, and Freeman was represented by Albert Kapin, Esq. of West Orange.
