2 Swimmers Rescued From Ocean In Monmouth County: Authorities

The swimmers were taken to the hospital after they were rescued in Bradley Beach, authorities said.

BRADLEY BEACH, NJ — Two swimmers were rescued from the water on Sunday in Bradley Beach after they apparently got caught in a rip current, authorities said Sunday.

The ANSWER team (Area Network of Shore Water Emergency Responders) posted on its Facebook page that it responded to McCabe Avenue in the borough for a report of two swimmers in distress. A U.S. Coast Guard vessel that responded was able to pull the swimmers from the water.

The ANSWER team said the swimmers were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for evaluation.

Phone calls seeking more information from police and the Coast Guard were not immediately returned.

The ANSWER team's post, which was shared by the Neptune Office of Emergency Management, said there are dangerous rip currents in the area already as a result of Hurricane Jose. A tropical storm watch for coastal counties in New Jersey was issued Sunday evening.

"Strong waves of 8-10 feet and dangerous rip currents are impacting our beaches today, and conditions will continue to worsen throughout the week," the ANSWER team's post said. "Beachgoers are urged to not go beyond ankle deep water or risk being swept out by the rip currents."
