2 Times Alex Trebek Mentioned Asbury Park On 'Jeopardy!'

Alex Trebek announced Wednesday that he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Trebek has hosted Jeopardy! since 1984, reciting countless clues for trivia buffs.

In that time, Trebek recited two clues that will hold a special place in the hearts of Asbury Park. Here is each Asbury Park mention on Jeopardy!:

1. SINGERS $600: On July 30, 2002 he gave a rare live TV appearance, broadcast from Asbury Park, New Jersey on the "Today" show (aired Nov. 20, 2002)
2. GREETINGS $300: "Greetings from Asbury Park, New Jersey," his first album, sold only about 20,000 copies when first released (aired Oct. 21, 1996)

Trebek, 78, said on a video announcement that he plans to beat cancer and continue hosting.

"With the love and support of my family and friends, and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease," Trebek said.

The iconic host ended the video on a lighter note. Trebek said he has to beat cancer because his contract runs for three more years.
