NEW JERSEY – Two wintry systems are expected to hit New Jersey this week, including a coastal storm that could produce "significant accumulating snowfall" in the Garden State, forecasters say.
A smaller wintry system is expected to first hit the state on Monday before the bigger storm arrives during the middle of the week.
The first system to expected begin after 8 a.m. on Monday and leave one or two inches by nightfall.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for all of New Jersey for the second storm, which is expected to hit the Garden State on Wednesday and last through Wednesday night and possibly into Thursday morning.
That storm is expected to start and intensify after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, potentially plaguing thousands of commuters on the state's busiest roads during rush hour.
Forecasters say the worst of the Wednesday snowstorm is expected to hit North Jersey, while Central and South Jersey are expected to have a mixture of rain and snow.
AccuWeather says the Wednesday storm is far from set in stone, but forecasters are recognizing some early signals that the system could come together and tap enough cold air to produce snow across part of the region during the middle of next week.
Should the storm evolve and develop to its full potential, the swath of heaviest snow might bring a foot or more of accumulation to New England and New York, and perhaps a few inches in New Jersey, according to AccuWeather.
