Asbury Park Opens New Bathrooms, Beach Showers For Summer Season

The city says the new bathrooms and showers are a major upgrade from what used to be there. They just opened Thursday.

ASBURY PARK, NJ — Just in time for summer, the city of Asbury Park opened new public restrooms and shower facilities for the 2026 beach season.

The new bathrooms are located at First and Fourth avenues. They replace the shipping container restrooms that had become a fixture on the beach there for many years.

The city says the new bathrooms are "a significant step up," featuring tiled interiors, natural light and water bottle filling stations outside, with entrances accessible from both the north and south.

New shower stations have also been installed at each major beach entrance.

This replaces a more basic set-up that was there in previous seasons. Each entrance now has two purpose-built stations, each with three showers and a foot washing station. One station at every entrance is step-free accessible, connected to the handicap ramp by a mat pathway extending onto the beach.

"These new bathrooms are a long time coming. We went from shipping containers to facilities that actually feel like they belong here. That's the kind of improvement that makes a real difference for families spending a day at the beach," said Mayor John Moor.
