In January, the nursing home resident mailed the check, in the amount of $30,104.30, to someone in New Jersey. However, police say Lamin Conteh, 27, of Asbury Park, intercepted the check in the mail.

He altered the check so it read "pay to the order of recipient," said Milford, Massachusetts Police, who investigated this case.

Someone then cashed the forged check on Feb. 5 at a Chase Bank branch in Piscataway.

The Massachusetts nursing home resident called police in that town Feb. 2 to report the money was stolen.

Over the following several weeks, members of the Milford Police Detective Bureau conducted an extensive investigation, which ultimately identified Conteh as the suspect. He was arrested July 1 in Manalapan.

He was be taken to Massachusetts where he will be processed on larceny and forgery charges.
