ASBURY PARK, NJ — Monmouth County and local towns continue their clean-up efforts from the unexpected flash flooding that occurred during Monday's rainstorm.

In Asbury Park, Wesley Lake overflowed its banks and flooded nearby streets, in what appeared even worse than when the lake flooded two years ago, in the fall of 2023. Patch was the first to report photos of Monday's flooding, but this news site has drone footage of just how bad Monday's flooding was.

On Thursday, Monmouth County announced it will remove all the post-flooding sediment that accumulated at the west end of Wesley Lake.

The county will remove this at no cost to the city of Asbury Park or Neptune Township.

However, the county did not give an exact date for when the pile of sediment will be removed.

“This sediment needed to be removed immediately to avoid damage to the draining infrastructure and stormwater management systems and eliminate waterway disruptions,” said Monmouth County Commissioner Director Tom Arnone.

“The county was contacted earlier this week about the need to remove post-flooding sediment accumulation, and our team responded immediately,” he continued. “I directed the Department of Public Works to prioritize the removal and approved it as a municipal assistance project at no cost to the city of Asbury Park or Neptune Township ... When our towns need assistance, we're ready to help.”

More storms are expected to hit this area Thursday afternoon/evening, and Ocean Twp. Police. Police urge drivers to be prepared and exercise caution — do not repeat what happened Monday.

"If the roadway appears to be flooded stop and turn around. If you have an emergency contact OTPD at 732-531-1800 or dial 9-1-1," Ocean Twp. Police said in a Facebook post Thursday morning.
