1. Mercy Center Continues To Serve Despite Possible ICE Arrest (thecoaster.net) — Mercy Center in Asbury Park is seeing a sharp drop in food pantry visits after a man was reportedly detained outside by masked individuals wearing ICE vests, leaving many Hispanic residents too afraid to come out. Executive director Kim Guadagno says the nonprofit is exploring new ways to deliver food while local officials note New Jersey's sanctuary policies and the lack of police involvement in the arrest.
2. Uptown Asbury Park bookstore fights to reopen after water damage saga (app.com) — A queer-owned independent bookstore on Fifth Avenue in Asbury Park remains closed after repeated water leaks damaged inventory, sparking a months-long dispute between the owner and landlord over roof repairs and responsibility. As the busy tourist and holiday seasons approach, Wolfe & Kron Books is fighting to safely reopen without risking more losses, while city officials and attorneys review what work has actually been done.
3. Market Street Mission Welcomes Shawn Wallace to Lead Asbury Park Operations (TAPinto.net) — A major local nonprofit serving people facing homelessness, hunger, and addiction in Asbury Park has hired Reverend Shawn Wallace as its new site director. He brings decades of international ministry experience to Market Street Mission's Jersey Shore location, overseeing meals, shelter, and addiction recovery programs that directly support vulnerable neighbors in and around the city.
4. Catsbury Park Cat Convention Sets 2026 Return To Holmdel (patch.com) — An Asbury Park–based nonprofit, Catsbury Park, is bringing its Cat Convention back to Bell Works in Holmdel, using the weekend event to fund rescue and TNR work along the Jersey Shore. With celebrity cat experts, adoptable pets, and interactive activities, every ticket and vendor helps sustain the organization's mission that started in Asbury Park in 2016.
