Asbury Lanes, the 1960’s bowling alley-turned music venue christened by Bruce Springsteen last summer, released its 2019 initial lineup on Tuesday.

Performances include a mix of local acts, budding talent and national icons, such as: Mike Gordon, a founding member of Phish; the nationally sought-after Meat Puppets; and Snail Mail. Notable Garden State bands set to perform at the Lanes include Brian Kirk & The Jirks, Colossal Street Jam Band and Billy Walton Band.

Both The Bowery Presents, one of the nation’s leading live-music promoters, and David Bowd of Salt Hotels, lead programming for the Lanes. As operator of the venue, Bowd is also part owner in and operator of the game-changing hotel next-door to the Lanes, The Asbury (“America’s Best New Hotel” by USA Today; “It List” by Travel + Leisure).

“Springsteen kicked off the latest chapter for Asbury Lanes, setting the stage for emerging and well-known artists to take the mic,” said Mark Shulman, SVP at The Bowery Presents. “The artists we are presenting aim to celebrate the musical legacy of Asbury Park, while playing a role in the venue’s dynamic future.”

The transformation of Asbury Lanes has been years in the making as part of iStar’s (NYSE STAR) decade-long multi-billion-dollar revitalization of the Asbury Park waterfront. What was once in danger of despair, the Lanes originally served as an 18-lane bowling alley in the sixties and later transformed into an alternative music venue where aspiring artists performed.

Anda Andrei, the creative lead for the Asbury Park 10-year, multi-billion redevelopment plan, along with architect Dominic Kozerski of bonetti/kozerski, maintained the Lanes’ sense of place in the restoration, with design choices like reinstalling the world famous bowling-pin sign and preserving the layers of rock posters plastered on the walls.
