Asbury Park officials asked a major waterfront developer on Thursday to stop construction and renogiatiate.

The mayor and counci made the decision after listening to iStar as well as two hours of public comment opposed to a design at a city workshop meeting, according to The Asbury Park Press.

Residents who spoke felt the boardwalk excluded the public from the beachfront and would lead to the overdevelopment of the city's North End section of the beach.

NBC4 said Asbury Park residents are up in arms over their stretch of the boardwalk being ripped up with no notice. You can watch it on the video here.

The developer, iStar, took over Asbury Lanes to rebuild it to its former glory as a music-and-bowling venue - with programming by The Bowery Presents, according to a press release.
