Asbury Park Looking For City Manager – Again

ASBURY PARK – Asbury Park is looking for its sixth city manager in seven years now that the newest one is resigning.

City Manager Michael Capabianco has announced his resignation, which is effective Nov. 30.

NJ Advance Media said the resignation comes just as Capabianco was granted a 3-year contract extension earlier this year, having presided over Asbury Park just as the city has had a spark of new development along its waterfront.

Capabianco said he wanted to stop working double shifts in the $145,000 a year job and that the lifestyle had become too demanding.

“It’s been four years of 16-hour days. My wife took a new job in October that is much more demanding than it had been, and childcare is much more of an issue,” Capabianco said in the nj.com report.

The city would not comment on the departure other than releasing a statement.

"The entire governing body wishes to recognize and thank Mr. Capabianco for his many achievements on behalf of the city during his tenure, which have improved the health, safety and welfare of the city and its residents, and wish to offer him their best wishes with his future endeavors," the statement said. "The Mayor and Council will be moving forward to appoint an interim replacement for Mr. Capabianco at an upcoming Council meeting."
