Longtime Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn ran for mayor, with outgoing Mayor John Moor's backing, and she was challenged by Dan Sciannameo, a two-term member of the Asbury Park Planning Board.
In his campaign, Sciannameo made the planned renovation of Convention Hall a key issue — he is skeptical of the renovation, and the $75 million in tax breaks the state gave the developer, and called it "politically motivated to benefit Amy" in an election year.
Sciannameo also accused Quinn of running a culture of friendship and favoritism in City Hall — "If you want something from city government, you better be in good standing with the deputy mayor. If you’re not, good luck to you."
