JD Wilson, an Asbury Park native, military veteran, former elementary school teacher and founder of Lead U, is releasing his first children’s book entitled Volcano Girl.

After four years in the classroom, he realized he had a strong desire to impact young lives even
more which is when he founded Lead U: a leadership and empowerment movement. In visiting
schools all throughout New Jersey, JD always had a strong desire to write a children’s book that
reinforced the lessons he and the Lead U Crew share in their assemblies or workshops.

The inspiration actually arose out of potential tragedy as JD was moved to write Volcano Girl
when his life-long friend Becky Seig recently received the unfortunate news that she needed an
immediate heart transplant when diagnosed with ARVD/C. During her month-long surgery and
recent successful recovery he wrote the book and shared it with her family.

to kids and adults. JD and Becky hope to raise awareness and funding for this very rare heart
condition through this inspiring childrens book.
