Box Truck Fatally Hits Bicyclist In Neptune City

NEPTUNE CITY, NJ — A man riding a bike was hit by a car and killed last Wednesday in Neptune City, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced on Monday.

The man, 44, was riding a regular bicycle, made by Cannondale. He was not riding an e-bike, said a spokesman for the county prosecutor.

He was hit by a car at 4:53 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Rt. 35 and Fourth Avenue. Police say the driver of a 2014 Hino box truck was headed south on Rt. 35 when the truck collided with the bike, headed west across the highway.

The bicyclist was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he died of his injuries Saturday.

The driver remained on scene. No charges or summonses have been issued at this time.
