A newly filed New Jersey Superior Court lawsuit could test whether certain firearms permit/application records may be accessible under New Jersey&rsquo;s common-law right of access, even when access under OPRA is disputed or restricted.
The case raises broader public-records and government-transparency questions involving police records, record retention, and the public interest in disclosure. The complaint seeks judicial review concerning access to records involving former Asbury Park Police Capt. David DeSane.

The matter is currently pending in New Jersey Superior Court, and the allegations and disputed issues have not yet been adjudicated. The underlying court filings and additional supporting records are available for independent review.
