Danny DeVito Day Expected To Be NJs Newest Holiday
Gov. Phil Murphy is expected to declare Nov. 17 "Danny DeVito Day" in honor of the New Jersey actor. How will you celebrate?

ASBURY PARK, NJ — New Jersey is expected to have a new holiday to celebrate soon: Danny DeVito Day.
Yes, you read that right. Gov. Phil Murphy is expected to issue a statewide proclamation on Saturday declaring Nov. 17 as "Danny DeVito Day" in honor of the Neptune-born actor, the New York Times reported.
“I was very flattered. Of course, they first told me I could have a beach. Yeah, but they reneged. So I said, ‘Oh, that’s perfect. It’s New Jersey.,’” DeVito told the paper.

Murphy is anticipated to make the announcement at this weekend's Asbury Park Music and Film Festival, and DeVito will be in attendance. DeVito was raised in the shore town, and will become the first Asbury Park native to have his own day.
Having your own day is a rare honor in New Jersey. Only one other famous Jerseyian has been given the distinction, and that was Jon Bon Jovi of Sayreville.

This isn't the first time DeVito has been honored by the State of New Jersey: he was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2010.
DeVito is looking to use DeVito Day to help other New Jersey entertainers, he told the Times.
“Now that I’m an icon and have a Danny DeVito Day, I’m going to try my best to get the tax incentive passed in New Jersey so that we can make movies in New Jersey," DeVito said.
New Jersey residents have some time before the first ever DeVito Day happens, but they can prepare by watching some of the actor's most famous works: "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest," "Matilda," and the TV hit, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."
