Asbury Park is congratulating the Asbury Park Housing Authority for the grand opening of the new Boston Way Village affordable housing complex.
City Council attended a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening on Friday, March 1, 2019. The 104 unit, $28 million project is the first major housing development to be built in the Springwood Avenue area in 50 years.
The original Boston Way, which was opened in 1952 by the Asbury Park Housing Authority, was vacated in 2014 and demolished in 2017.

“We can’t thank the Asbury Park Housing Authority enough for bringing Boston Way Village to fruition,” said Mayor John Moor, “We congratulate the Board, under the direction of Chair Gregory Hopson Sr, and Executive Director Thomas Sahlin for working so diligently to bring this project to Asbury Park.”
“Providing affordable housing in Asbury Park has been a top priority for Council,” said Councilperson Yvonne Clayton, “and we are pleased that the opening of Boston Way Village is the first step in the longawaited revitalization of the Springwood Avenue Corridor. These units elevate the quality of affordable housing in the area and will provide homes that residents can feel proud raising their families in. And, with the addition of more affordable rental and for-sale units upon completion of Renaissance Village and groundbreaking for the Parkview AP project, we are on our way to addressing affordable housing needs in Asbury Park. The next step will be to add commercial and provide services in the area to increase the quality of life for the many new residents we are expecting."

“The recent passing of the Affordable Housing Plan by the Asbury Park Planning Board will further our quest for affordable housing for residents,” said Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn, “The plan provides a path for developers to include affordable units as part of their project plans, helping keep Asbury Park on track for affordable housing in the future, and helping ensure the City’s continued diversity.”
