Local studio scholarships yoga teacher training

Shape Shop, Asbury Park’s rock & roll fitness studio, was founded in 2016 by Christopher The Minister (on-air personality at 95.9 The Rat, Jersey's Rock Radio Station) and Barbara Serbes (GreyStarr of Kingston & GreyStarr, Punky Meadows Tour). The pair set out to create a space that unifies music, positive energy and inspiration to give patrons a fitness experience as unique as the seaside city itself.

Shape Shop Yoga School was established in 2018, in partnership with director Dana Rose DeFrancesco, to offer students from all walks of life a committed traditional training in a welcoming environment. The school’s 200-Hour Teacher Training is a comprehensive introduction to the science of yoga and the art of teaching it. It’s for the student who wants to dive deeper into their own practice and knowledge of yoga, as well as for those who want to teach others.

What makes SSYS stand out is the amount of time devoted to adjusting, sequencing, philosophy, personal growth and intensive practice. Master classes on prenatal, kids yoga, anatomy, injury prevention/recovery and chronic pain release prepare aspiring teachers to feel comfortable in real classroom situations. Our emphasis on the development of a strong and consistent personal practice provides a solid teaching foundation for all students.

SSYS is honored to partner with CFC Loud N Clear Foundation to offer its community the opportunity to earn a full 200-Hour Teacher Training scholarship. “This training can give the recipient a new perspective on how to move through life with adaptability & grace,” says SSYS director/instructor Dana DeFrancesco, “along with giving them the knowledge & confidence to teach others.”

CFC’s community members are invited to apply for free tuition via written essay; recipient will be announced July 22, 2018. The school’s inaugural session runs from Friday, September 22, 2018 until graduation day on Sunday, February 10, 2019. Classes are held at the studio (1321 Memorial Drive, Asbury Park) on weekends, 1-6pm.
