More Than 11,000 Jobs Available In NJ, NY Right Now: Here's Where

NEW JERSEY – Two companies are looking to hire a lot of new employees in New Jersey right now.

The vast majority are with the United Parcel Service, which is looking to hire 11,000 positions at 38 locations in New Jersey and New York (see list below). At least 12 are in New Jersey.

UPS says the positions will start out as temporary, but a third of their seasonal package handlers are typically hired for permanent positions.

The other positions are with the owners and developers of American Dream, the soon-to-be opened Bergen County mega-mall that has been hosting several job fairs to fill open positions.

The latest round of hiring events, scheduled for Sept. 21 and 28, are aimed at recruiting 300 lifeguards to work at the mall's indoor DreamWorks Water Park. Read more: American Dream Looking To Hire 300 Lifeguards

UPS, meanwhile, says it needs full- and part-time employees including 4,599 package handlers, 4,410 helpers and 1,964 delivery and truck driversn. The driver jobs start at $20.50 an hour, while the others are typically $14 an hour.

“We expect another record peak season this year, with daily package deliveries nearly doubling compared to our average of 20 million per day,” said Jim Barber, chief operating officer. “In order to make that happen, once again we’re recruiting about 100,000 people for some of the country’s best seasonal jobs.”

Over the last three years, 35 percent of the people UPS hired for seasonal package handler jobs were later hired in a permanent position when the holidays were over, and nearly a third of UPS's current U.S. workforce started in seasonal positions, the company said.
