Up to 785 Barneys workers at five outposts in Manhattan, Queens and Orange County were expected to be laid off on Friday, as were the other 300 in New Jersey, according to notices filed by New York and New Jersey labor officials.
Other major retailers — which have a total of more than 200 locations across the state — are expected to close a large number of stores. One chain has announced six stores will close (see list below). The Lord & Taylor's at Woodbridge Center Mall is closing, according to a report on MyCentralJersey.

Forever 21 announced it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in a letter to customers. Pier 1 announced its own possible store closings after reporting low financial results.
“As anticipated, our fourth-quarter sales and profitability were disappointing and reflect the execution issues we identified earlier in the year and have been working with urgency to correct,” Cheryl Bachelder, interim Pier 1 CEO, said in a statement.
Neither chain has yet specified when the locations that will be closed. Another company that's shutting down 20o stores, Walgreens, has 158 locations in New Jersey but also has not disclosed which sites will be shuttered (see list of New Jersey locations below).
