Neptune Twp. Cop Who Lied About His Arrest Record Quits Force

NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A former Neptune Township police officer was sentenced to two years of probation for lying about his criminal history and getting fired from a prior job in law enforcement while he was applying for the job, said Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago.

Briant K. Nixon, 39, was ordered to serve two years of probation.

Earlier, he agreed to quit from his job as a police officer and permanently forfeit his right to public office anywhere in New Jersey.

Before he was hired by Neptune Township, Nixon had been employed as a police officer with the New York City Police Department (NYPD) from 2012 into 2017, when he was terminated for violating various departmental rules and regulations in connection with a 2015 arrest for domestic violence and for violating a restraining order.

Nixon admitted that in May 2023, he filled out an application for employment with the Neptune Township Police department in which he failed to disclose that he had been arrested for domestic violence and that he had previously worked for the NYPD and been terminated.

He continued to lie about having prior domestic violence arrests while filling out his Police Training Commission (PTC) license renewal application in March 2025, said the Monmouth County Prosecutor.

Nixon pleaded guilty earlier this year to fourth-degree False Swearing and fourth-degree Unsworn Falsification to Authorities.
