NJ Traffic Mess, Hazardous Weather Outlook As Father's Day Nears

This could be a Father's Day weekend to remember as New Jersey roadways were already riddled with traffic nightmares on Friday. And all those commuters and beachgoers are going to experience some big changes in the weather, too.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook since record-breaking temperatures are expected this weekend (see forecast below).

Before they get home or to the beach, however, millions of drivers are going to find themselves sweating in traffic as crashes and a number of roadway incidents have made the Friday traffic a mess (see those incidents below).

A crash happened around 3:30 p.m. in the Toms River area on the Garden State Parkway. Part of Route 47 in Cape May County is closed because of a serious motorcycle accident, according to New Jersey State Police.

Here are the areas with a weather alert:

The temperatures are expected to reach the high 80s and low 90s this weekend. A heat advisory may be needed for portions of the area since the humidity may make the air feel like its 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

On Monday, temperatures may challenge the record high of 95 set in 1929 in New Jersey and New York City and may burst into the 90s in Boston; Providence, Rhode Island; Hartford, Connecticut; and even Portland, Maine; depending on whether or not clouds and showers hold off, according to AccuWeather.

Here, meanwhile, are all the traffic problems reported by state officials at 2 p.m. (we'll update as information comes in):

• Garden State Parkway southbound: Accident north of Toms River Toll Plaza (Toms River Twp); right lane blocked
• Garden State Parkway: Disabled vehicle on the Garden State Parkway southbound South of Exit 125 - NJ 35 in Sayreville. Left lane blocked.
• NJ 23: Debris spill on NJ 23 northbound north of CR 511/Boonton Av in Butler. All lanes closed and detoured; 10 minute delay.
• Garden State Parkway: Accident on the Garden State Parkway southbound south of Exit 149 - CR 506 in Bloomfield. Right lane blocked.
• I-295: Accident on I-295 northbound North of Exit 52 - Columbus Rd in Mansfield Twp. All lanes closed 10-15 minute delay; use caution.
• I-280: Brush fire on I-280 eastbound West of CR 508 in Kearny. Right shoulder closed; 5-10 minute delay.
• I-78: Accident on I-78 local lanes eastbound east of Exit 51 - Burnett Av in Union Twp. Right lane closed; 5-10 minute delay.
• George Washington Bridge: Delays on the George Washington Bridge westbound from New York Side/Upper Level in Manhattan. Travel time of 20 minutes from the Cross Bronx Expressway at Jerome Avenue to Interstate 95 at Interstate 80.
• George Washington Bridge: Delays on the George Washington Bridge westbound from New York Side/Lower Level in Manhattan. Travel time of 20 minutes on the Cross Bronx Expressway at Jerome Avenue to Interstate 95 at Interstate 80.
• Holland Tunnel: Delays at the Holland Tunnel westbound. The travel time from the New York side is 15 minutes to New Jersey Turnpike Exit 14C, and 15 minutes to New Jersey 139 at Tonnelle Circle.
• US 322: Pockets of volume on US 322 eastbound from CR 669/Meetinghouse Rd to west of CR 653/Swedesboro Rd in Woolwich Twp; delays due to volume.
