Stabbing Results In Murder Charge Against Neptune Man
Derrick Simms, 32, of Neptune was charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of another man in Neptune on Sunday morning.

FREEHOLD, NJ — A Neptune Township man has been charged with murder as a result of a stabbing that took place Sunday morning in Neptune, said Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey.
Derrick Simms, 32, of Neptune, has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon (a knife) and third-degree hindering after the fatal stabbing of a male victim during an argument on Sunday morning, Aug. 7, the prosecutor's office said in a news release. The name of the victim was not released as yet by authorities.
At about 5:44 a.m. on Sunday morning, Neptune Township Police Department officers were dispatched to Squirrel Road in Neptune for a reported stabbing, the news release said. Upon arrival, one male victim was discovered in the front yard, unresponsive, with a stab wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the news release said.

Simms is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, pending a detention hearing, the prosecutor's office said.
