Trial Begins For Man Accused Of Shooting At Asbury Park Cop

The trial has begun for Asbury Park man indicted for firing a gun at a police officer in November 2015, according to a news release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office. See the video below of the trial.

Dante Allen, 20, was indicted on first-degree attempted murder connected to the Nov. 4, 2015 crossfire shooting on Springwood Avenue that left an 8-year-old girl injured. A bullet grazed her head, according to the MCPO.

Ballistics evidence was inconclusive although authorities have said they believe the bullet came from from the officer's gun, according to the MCPO. No charges were filed against Asbury Park Police Officer Terrance McGhee.

Allen was also charged unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, according to the MCPO.

The incident started when McGhee stopped Allen and felt a firearm on him, according to the MCPO. Allen fled, then turned and fired at the officer, according to the MCPO.

The officer returned fire and injured Allen, according to the MCPO. The girl was treated and released.
