Wesley Lake Sludge Will Be Removed Starting Tuesday

ASBURY PARK, NJ — The sledge and sediment at the west end of Wesley Lake will be removed by Monmouth County starting Tuesday, July 14.

The city of Asbury Park announced this Friday, saying it was grateful the county will remove the sledge.

This is sediment that accumulated there from Monday's flash flooding, when Wesley Lake overflowed its banks and flooded nearby streets.

Wesley Lake is shared between Asbury Park and Neptune Township, so the clean-up will benefit both municipalities, said the city of Asbury Park in a statement.

County crews are set to begin the work on Tuesday, July 14, at no cost to either municipality

"I want to thank Monmouth County for getting crews out to Wesley Lake so fast. That sediment is blocking the water from moving through like it should, and clearing it out will help protect us, and our neighbors in Neptune, against the next storm," said Mayor John Moor.
