Woman Gets Tangled In Fishing Line, Falls Off Jetty At Ocean Grove Tuesday

A bystander saw the woman fall on the jetty and as she was attempting to help her, both fell into the ocean.

OCEAN GROVE, NJ — A woman fell off a jetty into the frigid Atlantic Ocean Tuesday afternoon in Ocean Grove, and her life was saved by a Good Samaritan who jumped into the ocean to save her.

The woman had gotten caught on a fishing hook and tangled in fishing line, and she at first fell onto the rock jetty, said the Area Network of Shore Water Emergency Responders Water Rescue Team (ANSWER).

This was at Broadway Beach.

A bystander, a woman, saw the woman fall on the jetty and as she was attempting to help her, both fell into the ocean.

When rescue workers got there, the Good Samaritan had pulled the first woman from the water and both were on the sand. Neptune EMS, Ocean Grove Beach Patrol and Neptune Police provided aid.

"Had the Good Samaritan not been there to witness the fall and assist her from the water, this incident may have resulted in a drowning," said the ANSWER team. "We'd like to thank this bystander for her lifesaving efforts, as well as the 9-1-1 caller who reported the incident and the responders from Neptune EMS, OGBP and NTPD for their quick response."
