2 Firefighters Injured In Barnegat Apartment Blaze: Officials

Both are expected to make a full recovery after sustaining injuries at the Atlantic Heights Apartments fire, officials said.

Two firefighters sustained injuries as officials worked to extinguish a Barnegat fire on Sunday afternoon, authorities said. Both are expected to fully recover, according to Barnegat Volunteer Fire Company Station 11.

The fire took place at about 1 p.m. at the Atlantic Heights Apartments at 900 Barnegat N Blvd., officials said. The fire was extinguished and the apartments were overhauled to ensure no further danger still existed, authorities said.

Authorities checked additional apartments to see whether fire spread and confirmed all parties evacuated. Fire officials turned the scene over to the Ocean County Fire Marshals and Barnegat police for investigation.

Many units contributed to the rescue efforts for the apartment complex. Barnegat Station 11, Stafford Station 47 and Barnegat Squad 11 arrived at the fire initially, officials said. Officials reported a working fire moving toward the attic.

Fire officials reported a smoke column and contacted Waretown Station 36 for assistance, authorities said.
