2 LBI Contractors Didn't Do Job; Charged With Theft: Police

In separate incidents, they deposited a combined $13,000 from homeowners before doing minimal work, police said.

LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP, NJ — Two Long Beach Island-based contractors were charged with theft for depositing homeowners' checks and then doing minimal work, police announced Thursday.

William Pendergast of P&R Plumbing and James Feliciano of J. Feliciano Custom Carpentry LLC. were both charged with theft and violation of home improvement contractor law, police said.

Long Beach Township police received a report Sept. 5 of contractor theft in Barnegat Light. Pendergast entered a home improvement contract and deposited $7,000 from the homeowner, police said.

He did minimal work and failed to complete the job, according to police. Pendergast was charged Oct. 15 with two counts of theft and five counts of home improvement contractor law, police said.

He was released with a future court date.

Home Improvement Charges

Feliciano was charged with theft Wednesday after depositing $5,999 from a homeowner and doing minimal work, police said. The contractor was arrested after a two-month investigation, authorities said.

Long Beach Township police received a report of contractor theft Aug. 30 from the Brant Beach section of town. Feliciano deposited the homeowner's checks before failing to complete the improvements, police said.

The contractor was issued a summons for one count of theft and two counts of home improvement contractor law, police said. He was released with a future court date.
