5 RVs Destroyed In Fire At Barnegat Campground: Officials

The fire tore through Sun Retreat RV Park Saturday afternoon, authorities said.

BARNEGAT, NJ — Five RVs were destroyed in a fire that tore through a Barnegat RV park Saturday, according to the Barnegat Fire Company.

Firefighters were dispatched to Sun Retreat RV Park at about 11:19 a.m. for the report of a RV fire, the Barnegat Fire Company said in a release. On the way there, firefighters got an update that it had spread to two RVs.

Due to the location and the updated information, Warren Grove Fire Company (Station 48) was requested to respond with a tanker, along with Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Company (Station 47) for an additional tanker.

Upon arrival, multiple RVs were on fire. Assistance was requested from Stafford, Eagleswood, Forked River and Waretown fire companies.

Additional agencies responding included Barnegat First Aid Squad (Squad 11), Stafford EMS Rehab Unit (Squad 38), Berkeley Township Hazmat Team, Lakewood Hazmat Team, and the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service. The Forest Fire Service played a critical role in preventing extension into the surrounding wooded areas through suppression operations and backfiring techniques.
