Barnegat Man Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot: OCPO
James Hammer, 46, accidentally shot himself after disassembling a firearm, officials said.
A Barnegat man died Saturday night after accidentally shooting himself while disassembling a firearm, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced Sunday. James Hammer, 46, died from his wounds at about midnight, officials said.
Police responded to the accidental gunshot on Gunning River Road, the Barnegat Township Police Department on Facebook at 6:09 p.m. Saturday. Police said there was no danger or threat to the public.
Officials took Hammer to the Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford and then flew him to AtlantiCare Regional Trauma Center in Atlantic City, the OCPO said.
