MANAHAWKIN, NJ — A single-car crash in Stafford Township around midnight Monday brought down a utility pole and power lines, forcing Route 9 to close in both directions for several hours, according to Stafford Township Police.
Police responded on May 18, 2026, at approximately midnight to the area near 782 Route 9 South. Investigators found that a 29-year-old Manahawkin woman was traveling southbound in a white 2019 Honda CRV when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
The crash caused the pole and utility lines to fall onto the roadway, police reported. As a result, Route 9 was closed in both directions while crews worked in the area. Traffic was diverted through Mayetta Landing Road and Cedar Run Dock Road during the closure.
No injuries were reported in the crash. The highway reopened late that morning after utility companies completed repairs, according to police.
The driver was issued traffic summonses for careless driving and failure to maintain lane. Her disabled vehicle was towed from the scene.
