On May 28, the Pinelands Cultural & Historical Preservation Society (PCS) awarded $35,000 in PCS/Edward W. Rearick Scholarships to 11 graduating seniors from Southern Regional High School.
This year's recipients are Sophia Dar Conte, Kaden Demopoulos, Mackenzie Fowler, Emerson Aguilar Portillo, Dylan Wagenhoffer, Natalie Fischer, Kaedyn Lipowski, Alexandra Musacchio, Valentina Russino, Brianna Vassallo, and Maliah Gonzales.
Recipients were selected by the PCS Scholarship Committee, chaired by Barbara Paskin. Applicants were evaluated based on academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, volunteer service, honors, and personal experiences shared through the application process.
“We are so proud of the wonderful students who have received this year’s Edward W. Rearick/PCS Scholarships. Each student had a different story, but hard work, involvement in their school and volunteering in their community were constants for each of them,” said Paskin. “We are so proud of their accomplishments and wish them much success in their future endeavors!”
Established in 1992, the PCS scholarship program reflects the organization's long-standing commitment to supporting local students. For many years’, scholarships were funded solely through proceeds from weekly shows at Albert Music Hall, which is operated by PCS.
In 2018, Edward W. Rearick, a lifelong PCS member, left a portion of his estate to PCS to establish ongoing scholarships in his name. His bequest enabled PCS to significantly expand the program, increasing both the number and value of scholarships awarded to local students pursuing higher education.
