Ocean County Library Sets Revolutionary War Program in Manahawkin

Historical actor David Emerson will portray George Washington in a free July 15 program in Manahawkin.

MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Ocean County Library will host “George Washington Remembers New Jersey” at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at the Old Baptist Church on the corner of Route 9 and North Lakeshore Drive in Manahawkin. The free program will feature historical actor David Emerson portraying Gen. George Washington as he reflects on his time in New Jersey during the American Revolution.

According to the program announcement, Washington spent more time in New Jersey than in any other state. The presentation will cover places tied to his time here, including Trenton, Princeton, Morristown and Monmouth. Attendees will hear about Washington’s “brightest and darkest moments during the battles and encampments of the ‘Cockpit of the Revolution.'”

The program is being hosted by the Ocean County Library. It will take place in the historic church building rather than at a library branch. According to the announcement, Emerson has been storytelling as a historical interpreter since the early 1980s and has performed for hundreds of museums, festivals, cultural organizations and historical societies throughout the Northeast.

The event is supported by the Ocean County Library Foundation. According to the announcement, the foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization in its 25th year of enhancing services and opportunities for library users. The support will help bring the living history program to the Manahawkin community.

Registration is required for the free program. People who want to attend can register at tinyurl.com/WashingtonStafford, call 609-698-3331 or visit a local Ocean County Library branch.
