Undercover Cops Catch Drivers Blowing Through Crosswalks In Jersey Shore Town

LONG BEACH TWP., NJ — Undercover cops posed as pedestrians crossing the street in order to catch drivers who sped through crosswalks without stopping in Long Beach Township.

The "Cops in the Crosswalk" traffic safety detail on Aug. 4 resulted in 38 traffic stops and one warrant arrest in the span of four hours, according to the Long Beach Township Police Department.

"During these details, officers pose as pedestrians crossing in designated crosswalks. Vehicles failing to stop for pedestrians are identified and stopped by a marked patrol vehicle," police said.

These details are done in addition to regular details where officers monitor crosswalks on patrol.

Police identified the following areas where there are safety concerns for pedestrians:

• 26th Street and Long Beach Boulevard
• 68th Street and Ocean Boulevard
• 33rd Street and Long Beach Boulevard
• Tract 1065 and Long Beach Boulevard
• Labaia Lane and Long Beach Boulevard
• 20th and Bayview in Barnegat Light
