Barnegat Swears In 2 New Police Officers

BARNEGAT, NJ — The Barnegat Township Police Department has sworn in two new officers, Joseph Fiorello and Christian Dugan.

The department said the officers were officially sworn in by Chief of Police Jason Carroll and Mayor Pat Pipi.

According to the department, both officers join Barnegat after serving with the Ship Bottom Police Department. The department reported that Fiorello began his law enforcement career in Ship Bottom and served there as a Class II officer before moving to Barnegat.

The department said Fiorello attended the Ocean County Police Academy and completed the Basic Course for Class II Law Enforcement Officers in April 2025. During his time with Ship Bottom, he gained law enforcement experience that he now brings to Barnegat, according to the department.

Dugan also comes to Barnegat from Ship Bottom, where the department said he began serving in 2024 and advanced from SLEO I to SLEO II. The department reported that he also attended the Ocean County Police Academy and graduated from the Class II program in April 2025.

According to the department, Dugan built a foundation during his time in Ship Bottom that will support him as he continues his law enforcement career in Barnegat. In announcing the appointments, the department wrote, "We are excited to welcome Officers Fiorello and Dugan to our team and look forward to watching them grow throughout their careers."

The department also thanked township leadership in its announcement.

"We would also like to thank Mayor Pat Pipi and the entire Barnegat Township Town Council for their continued support of the Barnegat Township Police Department and their commitment to ensuring that our agency has the resources necessary to serve our wonderful community," the department wrote.

The announcement closed with a public welcome for both officers.

"Please join us in welcoming Officer Joseph Fiorello and Officer Christian Dugan to the Barnegat Township Police Department and wishing them both a long, safe, and successful career!" the department wrote.
