BARNEGAT LIGHT, NJ — An 80-year-old diver died after a medical emergency off the coast of Long Beach Island, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
At about 10:48 a.m. Friday, Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders received a call reporting a medical emergency from the dive boat Dina Dee off Barnegat Light, Petty Officer 1st Class Matthew West told Patch.
An 80-year-old vessel passenger had surfaced from a dive unresponsive, West said. The boat's crew was administering CPR.
Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders deployed a Coast Guard Station 47-foot Motor Lifeboat response crew to assist, West said.
The Coast Guard crew escorted the dive boat to emergency services at Lighthouse Marina, West said.
The diver was pronounced dead by the Hackensack Meridian Medical Examiner, West said.
