BARNEGAT, NJ — A Barnegat man is accused of killing his wife before stabbing himself in the chest, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.
William Garvin, 67, is charged with murder in the death of his wife Eileen Garvin, 69, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
At about 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 7, Barnegat police went to a Windward Drive home for a domestic violence incident, Billhimer said.
When police entered the house, they found William Garvin sitting in a chair with a knife sticking out of his chest, Billhimer said. Eileen Garvin was found dead on the floor, Billhimer said.
William Garvin was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he is in stable condition as of Wednesday morning, Billhimer said.
Investigation found that William Garvin was responsible for the death of his wife, and that his knife wound was self-inflicted, Billhimer said. He was charged with murder and served with a complaint-warrant at the hospital. Upon his release, William Garvin will be taken to Ocean County Jail where he will remain pending a detention hearing.
